Last year’s preseason No. 9 belongs to last year. Best advice, don’t drag it into this one.
The official 2026-27 polls are not out yet. The way-too-early top 25 that are out do not have the Pack in the top 25. That tracks. This team finished last season unranked after a second-round loss, then lost Jones, Trygger, and more in the portal. Voters do not hand out September rank because Brooks and Pierre are good.
Moore has already told you how he feels about that spot. Last year, after the Pack had slipped out of the poll, he said he did not mind “lying in the weeds a little bit and just being overlooked.” That was not spin. That was the coach saying the ranking is not the work.
An unranked opener would match the roster as it sits today: two stars, new pieces, shorter frontcourt, no proof yet. High Point will not put the Pack in the AP poll. It can start the argument that the early predictions are indeed way-too-early. Until then, treat any “we should be ranked” as fan talk. Moore would rather live in the weeds and make people find this team the hard way.
