1. This team is going smaller and faster.
Moore said NC State will be undersized, so the plan is to run, spread the floor, and live in space. That starts on defense. Stops let you push. Taking the ball out of the net does not. He also left the door open for more trapping and doubling, both to create turnovers and to make opposing post players uncomfortable.
2. Khamil Pierre is the swing piece.
He has seen better buy-in and effort this summer, but the ask is still blunt: be a dog every possession. Talent is not enough. The staff has worked on her three-point range so defenses have to come out and guard her, which would open driving lanes for her and Khady Leye. If Pierre takes that step, the team’s ceiling moves with her.
3. Zoe Brooks is progressing, and the veterans have to last.
Brooks did no contact in the summer because of foot injury in the NCAAs, is back in it now, and still needs to be monitored. Pierre’s knees are a wear-and-tear issue too. Moore joked that they’re getting old. Continuity from Brooks, Pierre, and Maddie Cox is one of the roster’s real advantages if those three stay available through a long season.
4. The new pieces are already in the fight.
Moore likes Khady Leye’s athleticism, Desiree Wooten’s scoring at all three levels, and the chance for freshmen Kamora Pruitt and Annsley Trivette to contribute. Local add Audrey Ericksen is back home, and late arrival Favour Ossai is in the mix too. His warning was the fire-hose one: a lot is coming at them at once. So far, he thinks they’re catching on.
5. Adelaide, Ky’She, and Qadence have a path to bigger roles.
All three graded out well in conditioning. Adelaide Jernigan has put in extra shooting work with Coach Williams and sounds more confident than she did as a freshman. Ky’She Lunan can defend and may push tempo better than anyone on the team if she keeps the game simple. Qadence Samuels is on the board for shooting, defense, and rebounding.
6. The Carolina opener is a rivalry game, not a different standard.
ACC play starts at UNC, and Moore gets why that matters. He still treated it like every other night. Last year NC State finished fourth in the league and didn’t host. His measuring stick is consistency: win the games you’re supposed to win, avoid bad losses, and show up the same way Thursday, Sunday, and on the road.
7. He likes the room, and he likes the staff around it.
Moore said the energy, health, and locker-room chemistry are in a good place heading into official practice Monday. Brittany Morris is back after the Final Four staff run, and Ronny Fisher has filled a hole after Houston Fancher’s retirement. The next test is the obvious one. Playing time hasn’t been split up yet. The tone still has to hold when it is.
