Abuna Ruop is a 6′ 9″ center at Norfolk Christian in Virginia. Yes, that height is real. She reclassified into the 2027 class and NC State offered because elite size like that doesn’t come around often. She’s a shot-blocker and rebounder first; career numbers sit around 12.8 points, 11.7 rebounds and 4.5 blocks.
She’s still growing into her body, but the presence in the paint is already there. She alters shots just by standing in the lane and she can finish around the basket. For a program that has sometimes needed more size, she’s an obvious target.
In Raleigh she’d give the Wolfpack a true interior presence. She wouldn’t have to score 15 a night to be valuable. Just protecting the rim, grabbing misses, and setting screens would make her useful. As she adds strength and develops a better post game, the offensive side should come.
Having another Norfolk Christian kid (Justice Brown-Jones) on the board makes the recruiting pitch a little easier. Ruop is a long-term piece, but the kind of long-term piece that can change how you defend in the ACC.
Known competition: The main schools are UNC, Duke, Maryland, Virginia, Clemson, Georgia Tech and Ole Miss. The ACC is crowded on this one.
