Why Florida State is 2-8 in the ACC and 7-15 Overall
The Seminoles are not a bad program by any stretch, but right now they are a mess, and the numbers don’t lie. Here’s why they’re dead last in the league in basically every meaningful category:

  1. They can’t shoot — at all
    • Overall FG% .382 (dead last among Power 4 teams)
    • Conference FG% .352 — that’s historically bad
    • They’re making just 7.2 threes per ACC game on 29.6% shooting. When Solé Williams isn’t cooking (and she’s only at 14.9 PPG in league play), the whole offense dies.
  2. They get absolutely crushed on the glass
    • Conference rebounding margin: –5.4 per game
    • In ACC play they’re grabbing only 39.4 rebounds while opponents take 44.8
    • That’s the kind of margin that turns good shots into second-chance points for everyone else. We saw it firsthand — they got dominated inside all night.
  3. Turnovers and poor decision-making
    • 15.5 turnovers per game overall, 13.8 in conference
    • Assist-to-turnover ratio of 0.8 in ACC games (worst in the league)
    • They gift opponents easy transition baskets constantly. Their 12.3 assists per game is also dead last in the ACC.
  4. No depth, no second scorer
    • Solé Williams and Jasmine Shavers are the only two players averaging double figures.
    • After that it drops off a cliff: Pania Davis 8.7, Emma Risch 8.2, Sydney Bowles 8.1. Everyone else is under 7 PPG.
    • When those two have off nights (which happens a lot), FSU scores in the 50s and 60s.
  5. Brutal schedule + rebuilding year
    • Non-conference: losses to UConn, Indiana, Florida, Illinois, Oklahoma — that’s a murderer’s row.
    • Conference: they’ve already lost to Notre Dame, Virginia Tech, Syracuse, Virginia, Miami, UNC, Georgia Tech, and Clemson. Their two wins? At Pitt and SMU — the two worst teams in the league.

Bottom line: FSU is in Year 2 of a massive rebuild under Brooke Wyckoff. They’re young, inexperienced, and simply not talented enough yet to compete night-in, night-out in this league. They have size and athleticism, but zero efficiency, zero consistency, and zero margin for error.

For NC State on Thursday night: this should be a get-right game. The Seminoles are exactly the kind of team we’ve been beating by 15–20 points all year when we play our game. Let’s take care of business, get the W, and stay in the top-four conversation.
