This is part of a 25-day series on PackWBB.com leading up to NC State women’s first tip at Reynolds against High Point. Each day gets one talking point. Today is Day 2: treat early writeups as outdated.
24 Days to High Point #2: Treat early writeups as outdated.
Anything written before this team plays is a guess with better grammar.
That includes the spring portal wrap-ups, the summer roster dumps, the early mock polls, and the “here is what NC State is” columns that are already circulating. Some of them are careful. Some of them are lazy. All of them were filed without a real game, without an official poll, and without a finished look at this group in Reynolds.
That does not make those pieces worthless. They are good for names. Who left. Who came back. Who transferred in. Who the freshmen are. Use them for that. Do not use them as a verdict.
The Pack changed after last season for a reason. The mix on the floor now is not the mix a lot of those stories were built on. Practice has a way of rearranging minutes. A transfer looks different next to Brooks and Pierre than she did in a bio. A freshman looks different when the ball is live. None of that shows up in a preview written in June or a ranking cooked up in September.
High Point is still the first night that counts as evidence. Until then, treat every hot take as provisional. The Pack does not need to win September. It needs people to wait until the ball goes up before they act like they already know this team.
