• NC State suffered a 75-65 loss to Clemson, bringing the Pack’s season record to 11-5 overall and 4-1 in the ACC. Clemson’s victory improved their standing to 12-5 overall and 3-2 in conference play. The Pack played without Zam Jones, who was sidelined for NC State due to an ankle injury.

Despite holding a lead for over 22 minutes, NC State couldn’t maintain their advantage against Clemson’s strong fourth-quarter performance, where the Tigers outscored them 23-8.

    Key NC State Performers:

    • Tilda Trygger led the Wolfpack in scoring with 19 points and grabbed an impressive 11 rebounds.
    • Khamil Pierre also had a strong performance with 17 points and 11 rebounds, securing a double-double.
    • Zoe Brooks contributed 15 points and led the team with 6 assists.

    • Raven Thompson chipped in with 14 points and 4 assists.
    • Taylo Johnson-Matthews scored 13 points, while Rusne Augustinaite added 11 points.
    • Mia Moore achieved a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Clemson capitalized on fast break opportunities, outscoring NC State 20-2 in that category, and their bench provided a significant boost, contributing 40 points compared to NC State’s 6.

The Pack will head back to Raleigh and get ready to take on a struggling SMU team 7-9 (ACC 0-4).

  • Bracketology Guru has us in Ames Iowa in March

As the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament approaches, ESPN’s Big Charlie wants all eyes on the Ames region if you are an NC State fan. Just for fun, let’s focus on bracketology guru’s matchups: NC State (6) vs. North Dakota State (11) and Iowa State (3) vs. Montana State (14). Well, not so much on the first round games. Let’s assume for argumentative sake that NC State blows out North Dakota State and Iowa State squeaks by Montana State in that first round. Who wins the NC State vs Iowa State match-up based on this moment of time?

NC State is projected to win against Iowa State. Of Course! This is PackWBB.com site Afterall

Here’s the rationale, powered by NC State’s full-strength roster and strategic advantages:

    1. Reinforced Rebounding Dominance:
      • NC State’s already impressive +8.9 rebounding margin and 46.1 rebounds per game is solidified by Tilda Trygger (7.8 RPG) on the court alongside Khamil Pierre (11.9 RPG). This duo creates a formidable presence in the paint, ensuring NC State dominates the glass. This translates directly into more second-chance opportunities for the Wolfpack and critically limits Iowa State’s powerful offense to fewer possessions, frustrating their rhythm.
    2. Zamareya Jones: The Offensive Game-Changer:
      • The return (at this time she is “out”) of Zamareya Jones (13.9 PPG, 4.0 APG, 34.1% 3FG) would be a monumental boost. Her scoring punch, elite playmaking, and perimeter threat are essential to unlock NC State’s full offensive potential. With Jones initiating offense and hitting key shots, NC State gains the dynamic scorer and facilitator needed to match Iowa State’s high-octane attack, ensuring they don’t fall behind in a scoring duel.
    3. Depth and Balanced Scoring:
      • With Jones and Trygger (she is probable vs Clemson) playing, NC State boasts a deep and balanced scoring attack. Along with Khamil Pierre (15.2 PPG) and Zoe Brooks (14.5 PPG), the Wolfpack will have four primary scoring options consistently threatening Iowa State’s defense. This balanced attack makes it incredibly difficult for Iowa State to key in on any single player, forcing them to spread their defensive efforts and potentially opening up opportunities for others.
    4. Disruptive Defense Against Elite Offense:
      • While Iowa State’s Audi Crooks (28.7 PPG, 69.1% FG) is a national force, NC State’s collective defensive effort, particularly with the added size and athleticism from Trygger, can make her work harder. NC State’s physical play, strong rebounding, and ability to generate 6.7 steals per game can disrupt Iowa State’s flow and force them into slightly less efficient possessions. If NC State can shave even a few percentage points off Iowa State’s shooting efficiency, their rebounding advantage will amplify the impact.
    5. Tournament Experience and Momentum:
      • NC State enters this hypothetical matchup with strong NCAA momentum, currently riding a 6-game winning streak and having navigated the 5th most difficult schedule in the land! Their experience in these tough games and Wes Moore’s history in the NCAA, guiding his teams to six Sweet 16 appearance in the past seven tournaments (2018, 19, 21, 22, 24, 25) not to mention two Elite 8s and one Final Four appearance.

Projected Score: NC State 78 – Iowa State 74

This projection is totally homered. But that’s ok. Go Pack!

With Zam Jones being “out”, the Pack will look to Ky’She to fill the void.

As NC State prepares to take on Clemson, all eyes will be on Destiny Lunan, who is expected to step into a starting role in place of the injured Zamareya Jones. Jones, a pivotal player for the Wolfpack, suffered a sprained ankle during NC State’s recent victory over Cal, leaving a considerable gap in the lineup.

History tells us Destiny may be up for the challenge. Lunan boasts an impressive resume. Ranked No. 65 in the final 2025 HoopGurlz Recruiting Rankings by ESPNW, she was recognized as a four-star recruit with a 93 scout grade. Her accolades include being a McDonald’s All-American nominee.

Before joining NC State, Lunan had a stellar high school career at Millennium High School, where she averaged an impressive 20.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, 4.2 steals, and 3.1 assists per game during her senior season. Her performance earned her honors such as the Arizona Gatorade Player of the Year and MaxPreps Player of the Year, showcasing her significant contributions to her team.

    ACC Stats to Date

In her freshman play in the ACC, Lunan has played in all the matchups. She has not only played, she has contributed to the 4-0 start by the Wolfpack. Here are her individual game stats so far:

    • 12/14/25 at Miami (FL): 24 minutes, 4-10 FG (.400), 1-2 3P (.500), 2-2 FT (1.000), 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 11 points.
    • 12/18/25 vs. Georgia Tech: 21 minutes, 4-8 FG (.500), 2-3 3P (.667), 0-0 FT (0.000), 2 rebounds, 5 assists, 10 points.
    • 01/01/26 vs. Stanford: 16 minutes, 2-7 FG (.286), 1-2 3P (.500), 2-2 FT (1.000), 1 rebound, 1 assist, 7 points.
    • 01/04/26 vs. California: 10 minutes, 1-2 FG (.500), 1-1 3P (1.000), 2-2 FT (1.000), 0 rebounds, 0 assists, 5 points.

Overall, Lunan is averaging approximately 18 minutes, 8.2 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game in conference play, showcasing her growing role on the team. Coach Moore will likely turn to Ky’She to help replace Zam’s minutes and stats. Jones’ Averages: 31 minutes, 13.8 points, 3 rebounds, 4.5 assists in ACC games.

As NC State heads into this crucial matchup against Clemson, Lunan will have the opportunity to step up and help fill the void left by Jones. Lunan has the potential and the chance to make a significant impact and do her part to lead the Wolfpack to victory in Littlejohn. PackWBB.com wishes Zam a quick recovery. Go Pack!

  • In the initial ACC report for the upcoming matchup against Clemson, NC State will be without standout guard Zamareya Jones, who is listed as OUT due to an ankle injury sustained during the win over Cal. Zam, the team’s third-leading scorer, exited the game in significant pain, impacting the Wolfpack’s potential offensive lineup.

On a more positive note, Tilda Trygger is now listed as probable, providing hope for NC State as they prepare for the game on January 8. The Wolfpack will need to adapt without Jones’s contributions while looking to leverage Trygger’s potential return to bolster their frontline performance against the Tigers.

  • As of January 7, 2025, NC State sits at 22nd in the composite rankings. Despite their competitive performance, the team has received limited recognition in the AP poll, reflecting a lack of love from the media. The AP ranking highlights a disparity between their on-court achievements and the acknowledgment they are receiving, suggesting that they may be undervalued in the broader national conversation. This could serve as motivation for the team as they aim to prove their worth and garner more respect in upcoming games. Laying in the weeds as underdogs! Wes has ’em right where he wants ’em.

  • The NC State women travel to Clemson to take on the Tigers in a Thursday Night ACC Match-Up. Let’s take a look at key Clemson players to watch and what NC State needs to do to counter.

    1. Rusne Augustinaite – The Scoring Leader

Overview: Rusne Augustinaite has proven herself to be the scoring heartbeat of the team this season, averaging 12.2 points per game. With impressive shooting percentages of 42.9% from the field and 85.7% from the free-throw line, her ability to find the basket keeps the Tigers competitive.

What to Watch: Augustinaite’s scoring ability in clutch moments will be essential if the Tigers to beat NC State.

How NC State Can Counter: To limit Augustinaite’s scoring, NC State needs to apply tight on-ball pressure and switch defensively to force her into contested shots. Communicating effectively during screens can help disrupt her rhythm.

    2. Mia Moore – The Reliable Getter

Overview: Mia Moore has been a consistent performer, averaging 11.7 points per game, and her field goal percentage of 47.7% showcases her efficiency. Additionally, her contributions of 5.1 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game highlight her all-around game.

What to Watch: Keep an eye on Moore’s playmaking skills, as her ability to distribute the ball will be crucial for maintaining offensive flow.

How NC State Can Counter: NC State should focus on denying Moore the ball and using aggressive traps when she has it to limit her passing options. Keeping a close eye on her off-ball movements can limit her scoring opportunities.

    3. Rachael Rose – The Efficient Scorer

Overview: Rachael Rose is making her mark this season, averaging 8.9 points per game with a notable field goal percentage of 48.5%. Her rebounding contribution at 2.4 rebounds per game showcases her versatility on the court.

What to Watch: Rose’s consistency will need to be maintained for the Tigers as they look for a reliable scoring option if the main options are shut down by the Pack.

How NC State Can Counter: To counter Rose, NC State can utilize physical play to push her off her shooting spots and close out hard on her defensively. Ensuring she doesn’t have open looks will be crucial.

    4. Taylor Johnson-Matthews – The Strong Contributor

Overview: Taylor Johnson-Matthews has provided solid support, averaging 8.8 points with a field goal percentage of 42.4%. Her defensive skills have also been critical for the team.

What to Watch: Watch for Johnson-Matthews’s three-point shooting. She doesn’t need to be allowed to get hot from 3.

How NC State Can Counter: NC State should extend its defense to the three-point line while focusing on closing out quickly to contest her shots. Keeping a defender in her vicinity will help limit her production.

    5. Demeara Hinds – The Under-the-Radar Player

Overview: Demeara Hinds has been a pleasant surprise for the Tigers, averaging 8.8 points per game while shooting an impressive 60.2% from the field. Her hustle and rebounding, averaging 5.9 rebounds per game, have made her a vital rotation player.

What to Watch: Hinds’ ability to contribute off the bench will be key, particularly in providing energy during critical game moments.

How NC State Can Counter: To neutralize Hinds’ impact, NC State should focus on boxing her out and limiting her rebounds. Additionally, physical defense can prevent her from getting easy baskets around the rim.

    6. Raven Thompson – The Anchor in Rebounding

Overview: Raven Thompson is a strong presence in the paint, averaging 6.8 points and 3.7 rebounds per game. With a shooting percentage of 58.3%, she is proving to be effective around the basket.

What to Watch: Thompson’s rebounding and defensive skills will be crucial as the Tigers face a tough NC State rebounding team that leads the ACC in grabs.

How NC State Can Counter: NC State must continue to prioritize rebounding as a team, using physicality to box out Thompson.

  • Hey, Wolfpack Nation!

Can we just take a moment to celebrate? Our NC State women’s basketball team just absolutely dominated the California Golden Bears Sunday at Reynolds Coliseum, walking away with a huge 71-60 victory! That means we’re now 11-4 overall and, get this, a perfect 4-0 in ACC play! How awesome is that?!

From the very first whistle, you could feel the energy in Reynolds. The defense was just relentless. The Pack was forcing turnovers left and right, and man, did they make Cal pay! NC State racked up a ridiculous 23 points directly from Cal’s mistakes – that’s like getting free points on the scoreboard! Plus, the transition game was on fire, blowing past them 18-8 for quick buckets. NC State pretty much led the entire game, proving Pack was there to play from start to finish.

The scoring was just fantastic, with everyone stepping up! Khamil Pierre was an absolute beast Sunday, leading us with 21 points on super-efficient shooting, grabbing 7 rebounds and dishing out 4 assists. Zoe Brooks was her usual amazing self, putting up 19 points, grabbing 4 boards, and snagging 4 steals that sparked our fast breaks. And Qadence Samuels, who had a break-out game, was right there with 13 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 steals.

Now, here’s the thing: The Pack did all this even with a couple of curveballs. Tilda Trigger was sidelined with sickness today, so State was missing her presence, especially one the boards, but the team just rallied even harder. And speaking of rallying, NC State’s emerging superstar, Zamareya Jones, was absolutely electric all game long! She was dishing out dimes and grabbing steals like it was nothing, ending with 12 points, a game-high 7 assists, and 4 steals. But then, bummer, late in the 4th, she went down with a sprained ankle. Seriously hoping she’s okay! If she can’t make the court in Clemson, we will definitely missed her in that crucial road game.

Cal did try to crash the boards like crazy, and hats off to them for that fight – they outrebounded the Pack 42-28. But honestly, their turnovers were basically gifts that the Pack politely accepted, and that’s ultimately what sealed their fate.

So yeah, a fantastic win! NC State shot a solid 44.4% from the floor and were money from the free-throw line. This team just keeps getting better. They’re building serious momentum in the ACC, and it’s super exciting to watch it!

Go Pack! Let’s keep this perfect ACC record going!
