NC State is 1-0 and Campbell is 0-1, and they tip it off Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Reynolds Coliseum on ACC Network. The Pack opened Monday with an 80-50 win over Wofford. Moore liked the energy and the pressure early, but he was less happy with the details once the lead got comfortable. Campbell is the next chance to keep working on those details while they build toward Kentucky on Sunday in Charlotte.
1. Whether the three-point spacing from the guards travels
Lunan went 5-of-8 from deep against Wofford, Brooks was 2-of-5, and Wooten was also 2-of-5. That efficiency is what keeps the defense from collapsing on Pierre and Leye, and it is the cleanest look the Pack has shown so far from the perimeter. Moore has said he intends to mix up the starting lineups this year, so it does not have to be those three again. Whoever is out there, the question is the same. If the open threes are taken and made, the floor stays spaced and the inside game has room. If the shots stop falling, the same questions from the exhibitions come back.
2. How Campbell guards Pierre and Leye once the ball goes inside
Wofford collapsed on Pierre and paid for it from three. Campbell has size in the frontcourt and will have to make a choice. Pierre and Leye are quick enough to punish a sag, and both can finish when the help is late. The Pack does not need them to dominate the scoreboard every night, but they do need the defense to respect them enough that the guards have space. How Campbell plays that matchup will tell you whether the spacing from Monday was real or just the product of one team’s plan.
3. Who besides Zoe and Khamil looks ready for Kentucky
Brooks and Pierre are the two you already know can play at that level. The rest of the group still has to show it. Lunan has the length and the shot. Wooten has the history from Colorado. Leye is quick enough to cause problems away from the post. Samuels has been comfortable in her role. Pruitt flashed in the UNCW exhibition. Against Campbell, the minutes will shift and the deeper group will get looks. The ones who play with the same urgency they showed in the first half against Wofford are the ones who will travel with them to Charlotte on Sunday. The score will not be the point. Who looks like they belong in that game will be.
