PackWBB now knows that NC State took care of James Madison by more than 30 points in a closed scrimmage on Thursday.

James Madison is a well-run program under Sean O’Regan, who has built consistent success in the Sun Belt. The Dukes won the conference tournament last season, earned an NCAA Tournament bid, and finished 26-9 overall. They’re physical, rebound the ball well, and play hard. O’Regan’s teams are usually competitive and well-prepared, even in a transition year.

They’re replacing some production after graduating leading scorers Peyton McDaniel and Ashanti Barnes, but they still have experience (including senior guard Bree Robinson) and brought in transfers like Trynce Taylor along with a solid freshman class. Not a soft opponent.

A 30-plus point win in a closed setting is a solid early result for NC State while Wes Moore continues sorting lineups and evaluating pieces. There’s still no official score, box score, or confirmation from either side, these things stay quiet by design, but the margin is now known, and it’s pretty impressive.

Next public look comes Saturday against UNCW.

Quote of the week

“We let Woodard go get 18 rebounds. That’s scary to think we let that happen against a mid-major program, and we’re going to see a whole lot tougher down the road.”

~ Coach Wes Moore
