Chance Berry has finished her official visits, and NC State was the last one.
After our article yesterday on how her underdog mindset lined up with the Wolfpack, the Class of 2027 combo guard from Ontario answered a few follow-up questions after wrapping her trip to Raleigh earlier than originally planned. When asked what first got her interested in the program, she pointed straight to the winning culture. “Definitely the program itself, it’s a winning program and I like to win,” she said. “I also like that they’ve developed girls in my position and helped them get to where I wanna be in the future, the WNBA. I’ve seen lots of successful scoring guards come out of NC State.”
Three things stood out most once she got on campus. “The fanbase, the culture and the city,” she said. She has talked before about liking the underdog role and carrying a chip on her shoulder, and that kind of toughness is something the program has leaned into for years. As Philip Rivers once put it, the Wolfpack ain’t for soft people.
Berry completed official visits to Texas Tech, Arizona State, Syracuse, and West Virginia before her trip to NC State. She has now cancelled the rest of her schedule. “I have cancelled my visit to Penn State,” she said. “NC State was my last one.” With Chance cancelling her final planned visit, that puts NC State in a strong position as the last stop she took and the freshest memory before she makes her choice.
Her timeline is clear. “I’ll be announcing it the weekend of November 6-8, so three weeks,” she said.
With the visits done and an announcement window set, Berry has seen every option she wanted to see. The way she talks about winning, development at her position, and a culture that fits her approach leaves both sides with a clear picture of where things stand.
