Raleigh, N.C. – A little update on one of our own. Former NC State guard Madison Hayes was waived by the Connecticut Sun on May 6 as part of their final roster cuts before the regular season kicks off. She got the news alongside guard Taylor Bigby so the Sun could hit the league’s roster limit ahead of their opener against the Washington Mystics.
Madison signed a training camp deal with Connecticut back on April 15, her second straight year going through camp with them after making it to the final cuts in 2025. In her last preseason game on May 3 against the New York Liberty, she put up 2 points and 4 rebounds in 11 solid minutes, showing that same hustle and versatility we loved watching her bring every night in Reynolds Coliseum.
Right now she’s an unrestricted free agent, which means any WNBA team can sign her. And honestly, we think she’s a perfect “glue player”, the kind of depth piece who rebounds, defends multiple spots, and just does all the little things that help a team win. We think she could be a great pickup for squads dealing with injuries later in the year.
It stings to see a former Wolfpack star get cut, but this is far from the end of her story. We’ve seen what Madison can do, and we know she’s got plenty left in the tank. Wolfpack Nation is 100% behind her, go get that next opportunity, Madison! We’ll be cheering loud no matter where you land.
