In today’s basketball world, the transfer portal is basically a wild free-agent frenzy. But NC State women’s basketball has quietly built one of the coolest player-development machines in the ACC. On April 23, 2026, the program’s official X account @PackWomensBball dropped a sweet graphic titled “TRANSFER SUCCESS.” The simple caption? “Keep reloading 🔄.” It showed a collage of Wolfpack players whose games absolutely blew up once they got to Raleigh.

The numbers are straight-up wild. Forward Maddie Hayes more than doubled her scoring and rebounding, posting career highs of 10.9 points and 7.1 rebounds per game in her graduate season. She also shot .384 from three, the third-best mark in school history. Saniya Rivers did the exact same thing, finishing her three-year NC State run at 11.1 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 3.5 assists before becoming the highest WNBA draft pick in program history. River Baldwin nearly doubled her production too, averaging 10.6 points and 6.9 rebounds in her one graduate year. Mimi Collins matched her own career-high scoring in her final season, while Qadance Samuels jacked her scoring up almost five times from sophomore to junior year and set new personal bests everywhere. Khamil Pierre showed up with her first career double-double average, grabbing 11.9 rebounds a game and shooting a sizzling 52.5 percent, good for second-most double-doubles in a single season in Wolfpack history and No. 3 in the whole country.

What the graphic doesn’t say out loud, but the results make obvious, is how NC State does it. Head coach Wes Moore and his staff are pros at spotting players with tons of untapped potential. Then they hand them real minutes right away, give them custom skill work, and build a culture where buying in pays off big. These transfers aren’t riding the bench. They start, they grow, and they shine. The strength coaches, sports-science team, and player-development staff all seem dialed in on turning solid players into straight-up great ones in just one season.

Lots of programs chase transfers for quick wins these days. NC State proves that real development still rules. The Wolfpack do not just reload the roster. They reload the players themselves. That April 23 graphic is more than a highlight reel. It is proof that when the right athletes land in Raleigh, the coaching staff knows exactly how to unlock their best basketball. So to the next group of portal kids: come to NC State, and your breakout year is waiting.
